Happy 8th Birthday To Us

June marks eight years since Createscape first opened our doors. Happy birthday to us! A lot has changed since the summer of 2014. “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea was the number one song, Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie had just premiered on the big screen, and soccer champions – Germany and Argentina – were battling it out for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Back home in Austin, Createscape was a lot smaller. It’s hard to believe that we launched with just a handful of members and occupied a single room. The city’s newest coworking space was so young, we only had two membership options, general or desk membership. And, fun fact, we only had one bathroom stall and never once had a line.

We’re proud to have made it this long – over the 5 year mark. Barely half of small businesses last past that point. Not only have we made it, but we’ve thrived. Trust us when we say we count every member, plus the thousands of day-pass and conference room users who have walked through our doors. We can hardly believe that we’re close to having had 1,000 full and part-time members.

Of course, change is inevitable and as we’ve changed and grown, so has the neighborhood. This stretch of Tillery Street in Govalle has had so many new businesses pop up, it’s hard to keep track. And personally, we consider it an expansion of the Createscape campus, from Flitch Coffee one block south to all of the businesses we share a parking lot with: Native Grocery, Squatch Frontier Fitness, Blackbird Fitness and Nutrition, Abe’s Smoke Shop, and Lone Star Light House. We watched as those businesses moved in and thrive, as well. Throughout Austin’s history, this area is more bustling today than it’s ever been.

When we first moved to this location, we had no idea what was in store. Now, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be situated in one of the hottest spots in East Austin. We just wanted to thank everyone for choosing to be here with us for the ride! We can only hope the next eight years are half as fun and fulfilling as the first.
